Halo 3 and Church

xbox-360.jpgIf you have teenagers, you’ve probably heard about Halo 3.  Halo 3 is the newest war game put out for Xbox 360.  And people lined up for days to get it when it came out.

So now some churches are using Halo 3 as a method of evangelism.  As controversial as that is, the discussion made itself to The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet, a national morning show.  Greg Stier, founder of Dare 2 Share Ministries, was on the panel that discussed this interesting outreach strategy.  Click Here to watch the video discussion

Here are some of my thoughts:

1. A ton of teenagers play Halo 3.  We need to be aware of that.
2. Halo 3 provides an opening for a discussion about many subjects- violence, maturity, love, etc.
3. The Game is rated Mature, which I believe means 17 and up.  And some parents think that means that their 7th grader should not be playing that game.  We as a church should support those parents.

Jesus used all kinds of methods to get his message across.  But He always had the right motive and a pure heart.  In any outreach adventure, we must always check our motives for why we are doing it?  While getting teens to come to church is huge(and I take nothing away from that), the real goal is to help teenagers make the life-changing decision to begin a personal relationship with Christ.
